DP Review is dead, how to replace it ?

DP Review was one of the most popular and trusted websites for digital camera reviews and information since 1999. However, in 2023, the site announced its closure due to financial difficulties and declining interest in digital photography. Many photographers and enthusiasts were saddened by this news, and wondered how they could find a reliable and comprehensive source of camera-related content.

Fortunately, there are still some alternatives to DP Review that can help you choose and get the most from your digital camera. Here are some of them:

Ken Rockwell

The gentleman is famous. He does not think like all and always has an interesting opinion about cameras and lenses. I don’t always agree with him, but I like to read his posts. Too bad his website is so ugly and outmoded, but Ken has so much knowledge and skills, it has become finally a part of the experience.

Imaging Resource
Imaging Resource is a very good source to get news from the latest released cameras and lenses. This website provides in-depth reviews of cameras and lenses, as well as news, articles, guides and galleries. It also has a comparison tool that lets you compare the specifications and features of different models side by side Highly recommended.

Camera Labs

This website offers detailed and independent reviews of cameras, lenses and
accessories, as well as sample images, videos and tutorials. It also has a friendly
and active forum where you can ask questions and share your opinions with other
users. However, the coverage of some brands like Nikon is limited.

Petapixel
More for reading news than reviews, but still a good source of infos. Good coverage of cameras, lenses, software, and accessories. Certainly not a one-stop-shop to know everything about something, but again, a fine way to be informed about what’s hot in photography’s equipment.

Digital Camera World
Not overwhelmed by what they write but impressed by the quantity, the diversity and the relevancy when it comes to photography. Recommended.

Photo Review
This website focuses on Australian photography, but also features reviews of cameras and lenses from around the world. It also has a magazine that you can subscribe to for more content and inspiration.

DXO Mark
If DP review is for engineers, DXO is for scientists! But the site is great, very objective. So go there to make you mind about the performances of the last cameras or lens released by a vendor.

Lenstip
A great website for lenses test. DP Review is indeed far from being exhaustive for lenses, and this site can be, like Photozone and DXO a great complement to DP Review.

Photozone
They may be the most demanding people I have been able to read when it comes to lens tests. They are not impressed so easily, so if you want to really know the limits of a lens, have a look at their great tests.

Digital Photography School
A must read if you want to improve your technical skills. Browse their archives and read their new posts!

Cambridge in Colour
A smart website, full of advice and tips. Many simulators help you understand all the arcane of the technology in a very clear way and very useful too, even for advanced photographers. A must read!

The Mansurovs
Advice, feedbacks and news from Pros photographers speaking about gear in real-life shooting.

Photography Blog
A straightforward website. Tests are detailed enough; you can make your mind quite quickly and the team is making relevant tests. It is complementary to sites like DP Review for several reasons, and I recommend reading their tests even if I am tending to disagree with them regularly !

Thom Hogan’s
About (Nikon) DSLR and Mirrorless. A kind of sibling to Ken Rockwell! Less emotions and more facts though which is both a good and a bad thing, but a must read.

Rumors’ sites: because you can’t wait for the official news. Very reliable sites.
PhotoRumors
NikonRumors
And much more… just go to one of their site and you will find the others (FujiAddict, PentaxRumors, …)

Underwater Photography: must read if you want to shoot below the surface.

These are just some of the websites that can replace DP Review as your go-to source of digital camera information. Of course, you can also use search engines to find more websites that suit your needs and preferences. If you have a couple of good ones you want to share with me, send me a DM on twitter.

P.S. this list is dynamically maintained as a page on my site. You can access it directly here.
